Directors fined in racehorse shares probe

Friday 19 July 2013, 6:15pm

Australian Bloodstock directors Luke Murrell and Jamie Lovett have been fined for giving false statements to racing authorities over the ownership of the racehorse Hathras.

TVN employees Bruce Clark and Dean Pettit have been suspended for three months over their shareholdings in the imported stayer.

Murrell and Lovett were fined $5000 and $3000 respectively at an inquiry on Friday after pleading guilty to giving false statements to racecourse detective Albert Gardner on March 28 regarding the ownership.

In assessing penalty, Racing NSW stewards took into account the prior clear records of Lovett and Murrell and the fact they subsequently provided a full disclosure of the facts concerning the offer of shares to Clark and Pettit.

The inquiry has been adjourned while stewards consider whether there has been any breach of the rule which requires promoters of shares in racehorse to hold the appropriate accreditation.
