Century of winners in sight for Gollan

Monday 3 February 2020, 2:17pm

Premier trainer Tony Gollan believes he has a genuine chance to become the first to reach 100 metropolitan winners in a Brisbane season.

Gollan has his seventh metropolitan premiership at his mercy with 61-1/2 winners after six months of the season.

He already holds the Brisbane metropolitan record with 90 winners set in 2017/18.

Gollan notched a double with Shalma and Pizone on Saturday giving him six metropolitan winners in the past week.

"I would love to train 100 metropolitan winners for the season," he said.

"It is something I have aspired to and you have to set yourself targets.

"I won't be crying if we don't do it this season. But I have some nice horses, loyal owners and excellent staff. It is a good combination and we have had a strong start to the season."

"So all in all I think we have a shot at it."

Gollan was the star of the summer carnival and hopes to carry that into the autumn and winter.

He has horses nominated for city meetings and Doomben and Eagle Farm this week.

Stable star Zoustyle, the winner of six of his nine races, is expected to trial towards the end of the month before a Sydney trip.

Zoustyle could also chase some of the Group One races over the Brisbane winter carnival.

One of Gollan's stable riders, Lani Fancourt, appears to have escaped serious injury after a fall at trackwork on Saturday morning.

Fancourt was treated by paramedics after being tossed from a horse but jockeys association president Glen Prentice said she seemed OK.

"Lani was bruised and battered and also has a sore head from where she hit it when she fell," Prentice said.

"There also appears to be some problems with ligaments in her thumb."
