Sea Siren coasts to win in Ireland

Monday 15 July 2013, 7:04am

Former Australian star Sea Siren will have big race sprints in her sights after making a winning debut for Aidan O'Brien in the Listed Belgrave Stakes at Fairyhouse.

A triple Group One winner in Australia, she had last been seen finishing eighth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, her final run for trainer John O'Shea.

Now part of the Ballydoyle operation, Sea Siren dropped markedly in class and travelled smoothly all the way for Joseph O'Brien who settled her midfield in the early stages, just off the pace set by Elusive Time.

Making swift progress after turning for home under her Group One penalty, she did have Russian Soul posing a brief threat but asserted to ultimately win with something in hand, officially by a length and a half.

"She is an exciting filly by an exciting stallion (Fastnet Rock)," Joseph O'Brien said.

"She has loads of pace and a great attitude.

"She got a little bit idle in front so I gave her a smack and away she went.

"We've only had her since Ascot and she is very exciting for the big five- and six-furlong sprints this season."

Sea Siren's three Group One wins came in 2012 when she won the BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000 at the Brisbane winter carnival and claimed the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley in the spring.

She had her final Australian start in this year's Doomben 10,000 when she ran second to Epaulette.
