Young Tamworth trainer Leon Davies hopes to finish the Grafton racing carnival on a high note with Twin Zero in the $30,000 Maclean Cup on Sunday.

Davies, 30, hit a carnival high when Kurtley won the $50,000 Grafton Guineas (1600m) on Wednesday.

Twin Zero, by Dubleo out of Blue Lyric, is a half-brother to his Guineas winner.

"I worked him this morning (Friday) and he felt really good. He pulled up really well after last start," Davies said.

Twin Zero was a last-start seventh to Gazza Guru in the $50,000 South Grafton Cup last Sunday.

"Forget he went around," Davies said. "He played up in the barriers, turned his head and missed the start. He was out of play after that.

"He's a funny horse in that he switches off completely and doesn't try when he's inside other horses.

"That might be a bit tricky from barrier one on Sunday but I'll leave that up to Chris (Whitely)."

Twin Zero has recorded seven wins and 14 placings from 38 starts.

"It would be nice to win another feature race and finish the carnival on a high note," Davies said.

The David Kelly-trained Garozzo, third in the South Grafton Cup, will not start on Sunday.

"He's drawn barrier 18. I'll keep at home," Kelly said.
