Thunder Mania advances Millions prospects

Wednesday 18 December 2019, 3:55pm

The John Symons-Sheila Laxon training partnership rarely have early-season two-year-olds but they have produced a good one in Thunder Mania at Doomben.

Thunder Mania was backed from $8.50 to $4 before sitting at the tail of the field and then storming home to beat Cosmic Gossip ($2.25) by 1-1/2 lengths over 1200m.

The impressive part of Thunder Mania's win was his final 600m which was clocked at 33.40 seconds.

A Snitzel colt who cost $85,000 at the Magic Millons sales, Thunder Mania won $19,800 in prizemoney.

Laxon said Thunder Mania was nominated for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic but would need another start to qualify.

"We have also nominated him for the Future Champions series in the winter, so we have an opinion of him," Laxon said.

"Adam Best (former jockey) has been doing a lot of work with him and it is paying off.

"He certainly got home well today."

Thunder Mania shortened from $201 to $51 in Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting markets.
