Mr Quickie in doubt for run at The Valley

Thursday 24 October 2019, 3:03pm

Mr Quickie is in doubt for a start at The Valley after he was found to be lame in his near foreleg.

The Phillip Stokes-trained four-year-old is the second emergency for Saturday's Cox Plate (2040m) and is also an acceptor in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m).

Racing Victoria stewards reported Mr Quickie was lame following an inspection on Thursday morning and would be reinspected on Friday.

Winner of the Queensland Derby in June, Mr Quickie finished 11th in last Saturday's Caulfield Cup behind Mer De Glace after bungling the start.

Mr Quickie is a $26 chance in Cox Plate betting while he is the $3.10 favourite for the Moonee Valley Gold Cup.

RV stewards also reported the Lindsay Park-trained Muntahaa will miss the Melbourne Cup and has been sent for a spell.

Muntahaa, ninth in last last year's Melbourne Cup for English trainer John Gosden, joined Lindsay Park after that race and was safely in this year's Cup field.

The seven-year-old has struggled this campaign, finishing last in his three races, the latest in Wednesday's Geelong Cup won by Prince Of Arran.
