Nettoyer backs up to win Group Three race

Saturday 12 October 2019, 5:03pm

One of the quirkiest horses in training, Nettoyer has an ally in Glen Boss who has steered her to a last-stride win in the Group Three Angst Stakes at Randwick.

Nettoyer's trainer Wendy Roche is another who believes in the mare's ability and had no hesitation backing her up seven days after her fine sixth in last Saturday's Epsom Handicap.

She did the same in the autumn and Nettoyer rewarded her connections with a Group Three victory in the Aspiration Quality, also over 1600m.

Boss, who rode Nettoyer to her third in the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle before the Epsom, said he was excited when Nettoyer ($3.80) grabbed Delectation Girl ($15) to win by a short head with $3.30 favourite Amangiri another 1-1/4 lengths third.

"This has given me a lot of satisfaction," Boss said.

"She is not an easy mare to deal with. She has so many idiosyncrasies and I just try to go with her and keep her happy.

"It is just so good for Wendy. "She puts her heart and sould into it.

"I can't imagine the hours that go into this mare."

Nettoyer holds an entry to the Cox Plate which is probably a bridge too far but the Empire Rose Stakes and Matriarch Stakes for fillies and mares at Flemington are targets Roche will consider.

"She pulled up super from the Epsom obviously," Roche said.

"She didn't do much during the week and she put on four kilos.

"We planned to have her a bit closer and I was concerned Amangiri would run away with it because of the pattern of the day."

Roche believes even though Nettoyer is a six-year-old, she is still maturing and she and her fellow owners will talk about the next move.

Delectation Girl's jockey Jason Collett was entitled to think he had the win in his keeping.

""She had all the breaks but just couldn't hold off the winner," he said.
