Chenier ruled out of spring carnival

Monday 29 July 2019, 3:05pm

Promising colt Chenier has been ruled out of the spring carnival because of injury.

The Godolphin-owned, Anthony Freedman-trained colt made a big impression when he won a maiden at Sandown on debut in March by 5-1/2-lengths and was subsequently high in markets for the Group One Champagne Stakes in April.

The colt did not make it to the Champagne Stakes, with connections opting to spell the two-year-old after he finished second to subsequent Champagne Stakes placegetter Lady Lupino at Sandown on April 10.

Races such as the Caulfield Guineas were on the radar for Chenier but Freedman Racing posted on Twitter on Monday he would miss the spring.

"Unfortunately Chenier has suffered an injury behind and will miss the spring, we hope to see the son of Medaglia D'oro back firing in the autumn," Freedman Racing said.

"He's still got a lot of growing and maturing to do but he's a very promising colt who we have high hopes for next preparation."
