Can't Be Done wins narrowly at Sandown

Saturday 15 June 2019, 12:43pm

Two-year-old Can't Be Done is showing he can win races, with the gelding notching his second victory from three starts with a determined display at Sandown.

By stallion All Too Hard out of the mare Nobody Gets, the Danny O'Brien-trained Can't Be Done ($5) just edged out the Anthony Freedman-trained King Of Hastings ($4.20) in Saturday's Ladbrokes Park Handicap (1200m) to win by a short head.

That pair, who raced on the pace, cleared out from the rest of the field in the straight with debutant Triton Rising ($3.90) making ground from back in the field to finish 2-1/2 lengths away third.

Can't Be Done won convincingly on debut at Sale last month before finishing narrowly behind The Astrologist at Caulfield in his second start on June 1.

Again he found himself in a battle up the straight but this time came out on top.

"His first start was excellent at Sale and then he just didn't know what to do the other day when he had to flatten out in the finish and he got beaten a head," O'Brien said.

"Obviously he fought it out well today.

"He's just a big, raw All Too Hard gelding that we've been patient with. He's still learning his trade.

"He has really toughed it out well there today and I'm sure he will get better every time he steps out."

Can't Be Done's victory was the O'Brien stable's 28th metropolitan win in Melbourne this season.
