Oliver seeks fee after being sacked

Wednesday 17 October 2012, 8:25pm

Damien Oliver has followed up his Thousand Guineas victory with an application to be paid whatever fee he would have been eligible for on the horse from which he was sacked in Saturday's Caulfield Cup.

Connections of English stayer My Quest For Peace dumped Oliver after allegations emerged last weekend that he had bet on a horse other than the one he rode in a race at Moonee Valley two years ago.

Oliver made the application to stewards at Caulfield on Wednesday.

He has also requested to be paid whatever percentage he might be eligible for when My Quest For Peace runs in the Melbourne Cup.

Chief steward Terry Bailey said the unique situation required further consideration and that a decision would be made before Saturday.

Oliver was replaced by Corey Brown on My Quest For Peace and Craig Williams replaced him on Green Moon in the Cox Plate, although he is not seeking any compensation for losing that ride after having private discussions with the horse's owner Lloyd Williams.

Henderson acknowledges there was a booking for the Caulfield Cup, but not for the Melbourne Cup.

Oliver would be eligible for five per cent of the prizemoney won by My Quest For Peace, which could amount to more than $300,000 if the horse won both races.
