Vic jockey Jason Benbow to undergo surgery

Wednesday 5 June 2019, 2:06pm

Jockey Jason Benbow is looking at another stint on the sidelines following a fall at Sale.

Benbow requires surgery on fractures to his right foot and ankle after a fall from Postmistress at Sale last week.

Victorian Jockeys' Association chief executive Matt Hyland said Benbow had six or seven previously undiagnosed fractures.

"He's having surgery to have have three plates inserted in the foot and will have his fibula fracture screwed just above the ankle," Hyland said.

Benbow had been wearing a moon-boot since last week's fall and had an appointment with Racing Victoria doctor Gary Zimmerman on Wednesday.

An MRI on his right ankle discovered the fractures.

Benbow was injured in a trackwork fall at Caulfield in March last year, fracturing a vertabrae which put him on the sidelines for six months.

Jumps jockey Ross O'Sullivan remains in the Hamilton hospital following a fall in a steeplechase at Casterton on Tuesday.

O'Sullivan suffered three fractured ribs and a punctured lung after initial concerns of a fractured ankle was found to be sprained.
