Missrock sells for $2.3m at broodmare sale

Tuesday 28 May 2019, 5:40pm

Trainer Robbie Laing says Missrock is the perfect advertisement for auction houses after fetching $2.3 million at the National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock was the highest-priced lot on the first day of the broodmare sale.

A winner of four races, three times at stakes level, from 34 starts, Missrock was a Magic Millions yearling.

Missrock was placed three times at Group One level, twice in The Goodwood, beaten by Vega Magic (2017) and Santa Ana Lane (2018).

"Come to the sales and buy one for half-a-million, watch it win $1.4 million on the track and then sell for $2.3 million," Laing told broadcaster racing.com.

"It's a great game racing.

"There was a bit of a buzz about her going into the ring today.

"It might have even played into her favour as the buzz was she's probably the best mare here that never won a Group One."

The $2.3 million exceeded expectations of part-owner Ray Montague who was expecting between $1.5 and $2 million.

"We had six or eight of our friends go on the journey with us. It was so much fun," he said.

"I have so much belief in Robbie Laing's ability to judge horseflesh."

Missrock was bought by John and Jake Warren of Highclere Stud in England.

John Warren oversees all The Queen's racing and breeding interests.

Second highest price on Tuesday for the former Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Invincible Star who was knocked down to Coolmore's Tom Magnier and James Bester Bloodstock for $1.45 million.
