Hostwin reigns supreme in Rosehill sprint

Saturday 18 May 2019, 3:07pm

Hostwin Supreme's win in benchmark grade at Rosehill has been enough for Gary Moore to label him the best sprinter he has trained.

The three-year-old, a $10 chance, got the nod by a head over Call Me Royal ($4.60) in Saturday's Jack Denham Hall Of Fame Handicap (1100m).

In a busy finish, Oxford Tycoon ($5.50) was another neck third.

Moore went so far as to put Hostwin Supreme above 2016 Group One Winterbottom Stakes winner Takedown but admitted he had been a work in progress having had more barrier trials than races.

"He is the best sprinter I have trained in my career," Moore said.

"He is better than Takedown.

"But he has been very difficult in the gates and it has taken a long time to work him out.

"It has taken a lot of effort from a lot of people including the barrier attendants."

Moore said Hostwin Supreme would head to Brisbane for the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1200m) on June 8.

The win was the gelding's second from seven starts and followed his midweek breakthrough at Warwick Farm earlier this month.

His jockey Glyn Schofield agreed Hostwin Supreme could go on with things now he had mended his ways.

"It was a really good win," Schofield said.

"He's come back a better horse and will be winning again."
