Misters to clash in Qld winter sprints

Sunday 28 April 2019, 11:49am

Two of Queensland's most promising horses Meet Mr Taylor and Mr Marbellouz are set to clash for the first time during the winter.

Mr Marbellouz won his first black-type race in the Listed Ascot Handicap at Doomben two weeks ago taking his record to eight wins from 15 starts.

Meet Mr Taylor won on the same day taking his record to six wins from seven starts.

Trainer Kevin Kemp said he was keen to run Mr Marbellouz in the Listed Chief De Beers Handicap (1100m) at Doomben on May 18.

"It will be a month between runs which suits him and he does like Doomben. We were lucky to get his Ascot Handicap win in because part of the meeting was washed out," Kemp said.

"But luck went our way and he has black-type now. It also showed he could handle wet tracks.

"Whether he is up to winter carnival class is up for debate. But he is consistent and he is a good horse at Doomben.

Meet Mr Taylor's trainer Kelly Schweida said he was also looking at the Chief De Beers for the gelding.

"It is a good race for him to try in black-type races. Of course from that start the barriers play a major part but if he draws well he should be competitive," he said.

Blinkers seem to be the key to Meet Mr Taylor who is related to some smart horses including the top mare Cape Kidnappers.
