Officials confident about Valley fixture

Thursday 13 June 2013, 5:37pm

Rain has forced program changes to Victorian racing this week but Moonee Valley's track manager says Saturday's city meeting is in no danger of being washed out.

Moonee Valley was rated in the slow range on Thursday but if an expected 10mm to 15mm of rain arrives in the next 24 hours the surface is likely to be downgraded to heavy.

Moonee Valley had its first meeting after a two-month break last Wednesday week and with the rail in the true position on Saturday track manager Marty Synan said that ground hadn't been raced on for three months and had a good cover of grass.

"If we get the forecast rain it will probably get to a heavy eight but I can't see it getting any worse than that," Synan said.

Thursday's Seymour meeting was postponed until Saturday and will replace the meeting set down for Bairnsdale which has been abandoned.

Pakenham, due to race on Sunday, is rated a Heavy (10) and stewards will inspect the track on Friday.

The Bendigo meeting on Sunday is highlighted by the Brendan Drechsler Hurdle and Mosstrooper Steeplechase and is set to go ahead as planned with the track rated a heavy (8) on Thursday.
