From Within confirms path to winter riches

Saturday 13 April 2019, 4:05pm

The decision to remove ear muffs from the race day gear of mare From Within has set her on a path towards the black-type races in the winter.

Trainer Toby Edmonds had hoped to get From Within ($2.80) to settle better in her races and run just of the pace in the TAB Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

But those plans went out the window when she jumped to an easy lead and then led the field a merry dance before beating Guard of Honour ($6) by a long neck.

From Within clocked 56.45 seconds which was just outside the course record of 56.14 seconds.

Winning jockey Jeff Lloyd said the decision to remove ear muffs from the gear of From Within had proved a winning one.

"We worked her without them on Tuesday and she went really well. I believe it has made a big difference and she is ready to go into the winter," Lloyd said.

From Within has had an up-and-down career after starting second favourite in the 2017 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

She was well beaten in that race and struggled in Sydney afterwards.

But From Within was sent to Edmonds on the Gold Coast last year and has since won five races and lifted her prize money to nearly $350,000.

From Within won the Listed Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield during the spring and Edmonds is sure she is up to even better stakes class.

Edmonds was in Sydney on Saturday but stable representative Ben McCartney confirmed a winter carnival campaign for the mare.

"Exactly which way they go is up to Toby but they are obviously keen to get more black-type for her as she is already a valuable broodmare," he said.

Jockey Larry Cassidy said Guard of Honour was getting back to his best and wasn't far off a win.

Cool Sequence ($6.50) finished well to get third a further long neck back and his jockey Michael Cahill said it was a good effort for a first run in open company.
