A week of milestones for Victorian apprentices continued on Wednesday when Jye McNeil celebrated his first city victory at Sandown.

McNeil, 18, scored aboard the Matthew Williams-trained Luckyi'mbarefoot in heavy conditions in the Schweppes Handicap (1400m).

The apprentice quipped that he was still getting "a few nightmares" about this year's Listed Albury Cup in which he was first past the post on Fabriano, only to be relegated to third on protest.

But there will only be happy memories of his first city win at Sandown despite the miserable weather.

"You can't really describe it," McNeil said of winning his first race in town.

"It was a funny feeling...a good feeling."

McNeil said he went into the race confident following the gelding's eye-catching last-start fifth at the same venue.

"After seeing his last start and the way he got home down the outside I was pretty confident he would hit the line well today," McNeil said.

On Monday at Mornington's metropolitan meeting fellow apprentices Kayla Nisbet and Brodie Loy celebrated their first city wins.

The meeting was also the venue for former New Zealand apprentice Ryan Hurdle's first city success in Melbourne.

Junior riders were also in the thick of the action in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1400m) at Sandown with apprentice Harry Coffey successfully protesting against fellow claimer Katelyn Mallyon.

Stewards said Mallyon's outward shift from the 200m on Bitola cost Coffey's mount Angela's Dream more than the three-quarter length margin it was beaten and upheld the objection.
