Trainer Toby Edmonds has continued to build his association with some of Australia's biggest stud operations with Music's win at Doomben.

Music's jockey Jeff Lloyd had to survive a protest from runner-up Tickettome's rider, apprentice Michael Murphy, to register her first win at her fourth race start.

Murphy protested on the grounds Lloyd had checked him at the 500m when Music whipped around the field.

Stewards dismissed the protest after taking into account the distance of the alleged offence from the winning post.

Edmonds trains for several top studs, most notably Segenhoe and Aquis Farm, but Music was his first runner for the Kelly family's Newhaven Park.

The Kellys have had many winners in Brisbane including English who won last year's Doomben 10,000.

"That was our first runner for Newhaven and our first winner for them. It is an honour to train for such a renowned racing name" stable foreman Trent Edmonds said.

He said it was the first time in four starts Music had run on a dry track and she would improve.

Music is one of the few horses sired by former champion South African galloper Delago Deluxe to race in Brisbane.

Toowoomba trainer Ben Currie got his eighth winner in the past five days when Whycatchim led all the way to win the Benchmark 85 (1050m).

The win followed a Doomben treble last Saturday, and doubles at Ipswich and Toowoomba.

Currie is training on a stay until a multitude of charges against him are heard but is barred from attending Doomben or Eagle Farm by the Brisbane Racing Club.

His lawyers hope to get a judicial review late this week so that the first 28 of those charges can be heard on Monday.
