Rabbit to turn hunter at Doomben

Friday 1 March 2019, 3:19pm

Trainer Stuart Kendrick believes the day three-year-old Rabbit Hunter finally gets everything right on race day he will win in good company.

Kendrick has shown his faith in Rabbit Hunter by scratching him from a restricted race on Wednesday to run in the $125,000 Jewel Three-Year-Old Prelude at Doomben on Saturday.

Rabbit Hunter scored an impressive win at Doomben two weeks ago to add to his six minor placings in previous races.

Kendrick admits Rabbit Hunter has been frustrating throughout his career.

"He has a heap of ability but he just does so much wrong in his races," Kendrick said.

"Even with his last-start win he did plenty wrong. He ran a slick overall time with a very good final 600 metres so who knows what he can do when he puts it all together.

"I know it is a big step up in class but he deserves a chance in better company."

Kendrick will also have consistent filly Winter Passage in the Jewel Prelude.

"Talk about horses running minor placings but she is just so honest," Kendrick said.

Winter Passage has won three races but run seven minor placings in her 11-start career.

"She has paid for her consistency but it is set weights on Saturday which is in her favour," Kendrick said.

He will also have first starter Don't Waiver in the Colts and Gelding Two-Year-Old Prelude on Saturday.

"He has trialled well and this is a good race to start," Kendrick said.
