Trial helps Magic Beans in win

Saturday 23 February 2019, 2:16pm

Trainer John Zielke pulled smart move in trialling Magic Beans during the week before the gelding's win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Zielke sent the two-year-old around over 1000m on Tuesday at the Gold Coast and ran third.

It was Magic Beans' first start since November in the Priceline Pharmacy Two Year Old (1300m) and the trial helped round out his fitness.

Magic Beans ($.950) was the strongest on the line beating favourite Raay Of Dreams ($2.05) with a half head to Sizzling Babe ($5.50) third.

Zielke was in Mackay on Saturday with two runners but he intends to look for even longer two-year-old races with Magic Beans.

Jockey Anthony Allen continued his recent good form with Zielke with the win.

"John has stuck by me of late and we have been having a bit of success," he said.

"One thing, you don't get many two-year-old races run as slowly in the early stages as that. But my horse was strong on the line."

Andrew Gibbons said of his ride on Raay Of Dreams she had probably not been suited by the slow early pace but had fought back well in the straight.
