Fling to chase debut win at Sandown

Sunday 27 January 2019, 2:56pm

The Lindsay Park stable has scratched one of its two entrants in a juvenile race at Sandown but Fling will still be out to make an impression when she steps out for her debut.

Fling is one of five unraced two-year-old fillies among the eight remaining acceptors for Monday's Labdrokes Plate (1200m) and her co-trainer Tom Dabernig expects she can be competitive on what he has seen from her on the training track.

If she performs well, she can add her name to the stable's contenders heading to the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes on February 23.

"I think she looks to go pretty well in the jump-outs," Dabernig said.

"I think the 1200 metres will suit her rather than 1000 metres and based on what I've seen I would expect her to be competitive.

"Two-year-old races a month out from the Blue Diamond are never easy. There always seems to be something emerging but I would expect her to be competitive."

The stable has scratched Hafaawa from Monday's race with the filly, second at Randwick in her only race start, likely to run over 1300m at Sandown next month.

The Lindsay Park stable produced a Blue Diamond contender on Friday night at The Valley when stakes-placed Lankan Star resumed from a spell for her second career start and finished powerfully to win a 1000m-maiden by 1-1/2-lengths.

"I thought it was a really good win," Dabernig said.

"She ran really well on Cup week down the straight on debut.

"We decided to ride her patiently on Friday night and she was too good for them. She will head towards the fillies Blue Diamond Prelude (Februrary 9) at this stage."

Fling is one of several runners for Lindsay Park on Monday's program including three-year-old filly Victory Kingdom who is favourite for the Mypunter.com Plate (1200m) after her second on debut in a maiden at Moonee Valley last month.

"Victory Kingdom ran well first-up and she goes into blinkers," Dabernig said.

"In a maiden I think she will be around the mark."
