Hot Snitzel out to boost Ryan spring team

Tuesday 16 October 2012, 3:32pm

Group One placegetter Hot Snitzel heads a trio of Gerald Ryan-trained stakes winners at Randwick on Saturday looking to be part of the stable's second wave of attack on the Melbourne spring carnival.

Ryan has already enjoyed a successful carnival led by star filly Snitzerland, the Golden Slipper runner-up who is unbeaten in four starts as a three-year-old.

Cavalry Rose joined her as a winner at Caulfield on Saturday with Melbourne Cup aspirant Ironstein progressing nicely towards the big race with his fourth in the Herbert Power.

Along with Dances On Stars and Angel Of Mercy, Hot Snitzel will resume at the City Tattersalls meeting with his mission the Group Two Salinger Stakes at Flemington.

Hot Snitzel is second topweight with 59kg in the Listed Lightning Handicap (1100m) with Tiger Tees on 59.5kg.

"He has been hammered with weight but we will have to put up with it," Ryan said.

"He galloped well on Monday morning and I was really pleased with him heading towards the Salinger."

As a two-year-old Hot Snitzel finished second to Benfica in the 2011 TJ Smith at Eagle Farm and last spring scored a first-up win in the Brian Crowley Stakes at the corresponding Randwick meeting.

In the autumn, Hot Snitzel once again proved his prowess fresh with victory in the Royal Sovereign Stakes but he was spelled after his third start when he failed in the Group One Galaxy.

He has been readied for the Lightning with a second to Angel Of Mercy in a barrier trial on October 5.

Dances On Stars won a trial on the same day and runs in the Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) while Angel Of Mercy tackles the Listed Nivison (1200m)

"All three trialled well and all three will be going to Melbourne," Ryan said.

"Angel Of Mercy is headed the Summoned Stakes at Sandown while Dances On Stars will be aimed at some of the lesser three-year-old races over the carnival."

Nathan Berry will be aboard Angel Of Mercy while Glyn Schofield rides Dances On Stars and Hot Snitzel.

Angel Of Mercy won the James H B Carr Stakes in the autum while Dances On Stars' sole win so far from seven starts came in the Kindergarten Stakes.
