No Magic Millions for Sunlight's sister

Wednesday 28 November 2018, 4:57pm

The little sister of defending Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Sunlight will not get the chance to emulate the flying filly in this season's rich race at the Gold Coast.

Trainer Tony McEvoy said while two-year-old Sisstar had the talent, at this early stage of her juvenile season she did not have the strength to head on a Magic Millions path in January.

He instead plans to be patient and give the filly more time with a view to other targets later in the season.

Sisstar, by Zoustar out of Solar Charged, finished fourth on debut in the Group Three Ottawa Stakes at Flemington on November 6, won by Bella Rosa on a wet track.

"She just doesn't have the strength (for a Magic Millions preparation)," McEvoy said.

"She's got the class. She's got the talent.

"And all that beat her (on debut), she's a top-of-the-ground filly like most speed horses.

"The winner was off the bit inside of her but as soon as he (Luke Currie) let her head go, she got bogged down."

Sunlight won last season's $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast last January during a successful juvenile season.

During the recent spring carnival three-year-old Sunlight won the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes.

McEvoy said Sisstar was eligible for the $1 million The Showdown in Melbourne in April and indicated that would be a target.
