McMahon to appeal against suspension

Saturday 25 May 2013, 5:58pm

Ric McMahon will appeal against a nine meetings suspension which threatens to rule him out of the Stradbroke Handicap mount on Better Than Ready.

Stewards suspended McMahon on Saturday for causing interference to Jetset Lad, Manawanui and Spirit Of Boom at the 300-metre mark in the Doomben 10,000 when he rode Better Than Ready.

His suspension is due to start after next Saturday's Queensland Oaks meeting and unless his appeal succeeds he won't return until Ipswich Cup day on June 15.

Glen Boss scored a homecoming win aboard My Shabella at Doomben but finished the day with a careless riding suspension.

Boss pleaded guilty to causing interference aboard My Shabella on the home turn and was outed for seven meetings.

His suspension started after the Doomben meeting but he is free to resume riding at the Stradbroke Handicap meeting at Eagle Farm on June 8.

Tim Clark's exemplary riding record saved him from a more severe penalty after he was outed for five meetings for causing interference to Margins at the 200m in the Premier's Cup when he rode Studio.

Stewards took into account Clark has not been suspended for a similar infringement for more than three years.

Clark will ride at the Oaks meeting before starting his suspension which ends on June 9, the day after the Stradbroke.
