Joshua Tree wins Woodbine International

Monday 15 October 2012, 1:18pm

Trainer Marco Botti has won the Canadian International with Joshua Tree at Woodbine just days before he has his first Australian runner Jakkalberry in the Caulfield Cup.

Frankie Dettori gave Joshua Tree a stunning ride from the front to land the Canadian International, leading home the James Fanshawe-trained Dandino for a British one-two.

Dettori set just a steady gallop on Joshua Tree who won the race in 2010 when trained by Aidan O'Brien, and saved plenty for the business end, getting everything out of his mount who had just enough left to hold Dandino ridden by Jim Crowley.

It was the third Canadian International win for Dettori following victories on Mutafaweq (2000) and Sulamani (2004).

The race was part of the Breeders' Cup 'win and you're in' series', in this case for the Turf race at Santa Anita next month.

Earlier, the Francois Doumen-trained, Gerald Mosse-ridden Siyouma landed a famous victory for France in the E P Taylor Stakes.

Winner of the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket over a mile on her last start, the four-year-old took a keen hold under Mosse, who sat in an ideal position just off the heels of the leaders in the 10-furlong (2000m) Group One event.

The response when he asked her to quicken in the straight was immediate and the daughter of Medicean won with her ears pricked from Olivier Peslier on the Henri-Alex Pantall-trained compatriot Pagera.

Like the Canadian International, the E P Taylor is part of the Breeders Cup qualifying program, with entry fees and travelling allowances paid for the Filly And Mare Turf.
