Ellicazoom wins Group Three Cockram Stakes

Saturday 1 September 2018, 6:25pm

Ellicazoom has ended a frustrating day on a high for Lindsay Park with a booming win in the Cockram Stakes at Caulfield.

Lindsay Park had favourites Jammeh and Vega Magic finish out of the placings at Caulfield along with More Sundays at Randwick after expecting them to figure prominently.

A newcomer to the Lindsay Park stable, having previously been trained by Neville Parnham in Perth, Ellicazoom swept down the outside to claim victory under Regan Bayliss.

Backed from $11 into $8.50, Ellicazoom scored a 2-1/4 length win over I Am Excited ($5.50) with I Am A Star ($16) a long head away third.

"It was great to get the mare from Kitchwin Hills and to win a Group Three with her at her first run for us," co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.

"I must admit when the barriers came out and we drew so wide we thought it might be a bit tough but we thought we'd ride her quiet as she's got a long spring ahead of her and see if she can hit the line.

"It all worked out perfectly for her.

"There's some good races coming up but now she's a Group Three winner she'll be a valuable mare."
