Fighting Teo claims battle of the giants

Saturday 18 August 2018, 2:03pm

Fighting Teo confirmed his rating as a stayer of the future when he won the battle of the giants with a gritty performance at the Gold Coast.

Fighting Teo ($3.80) who stands well over 17 hands beat the 18 hands tall Meteorologist ($21) by a length in the Superchicken Seafood and Burgers Handicap (2200m).

The gelding sat three and four deep the entire way but was still coming away from the field on the line.

Trainer Kevin Kemp believes Fighting Teo was probably best suited by sitting deep in the race but admitted it was a freak run.

"He is such a big horse and he was travelling well at least. Put him on the fence and who knows what would have happened," Kemp said.

"As it turned out the two biggest horses in the race - well probably the state - were caught deep and fought it out."

Fighting Teo was placed in Sydney at his previous start but Kemp is likely to keep the gelding in Queensland.
