Newhaven Park is proud to announce that it will be standing Champion South African sprinting sensation Delago Deluxe at their historic Boorowa base in 2013.

Delago Deluxe is an unbeaten Gr 1 winning Champion 2YO who returned at three to win the time honored Gr 1 Golden Horseshoe. The Australian born son of Encosta de Lago will stand at Newhaven Park in partnership with Nordic Racing and Breeding (an Australian bloodstock company representing a consortium of thoroughbred participants comprising amongst others South Africa’s leading owner Markus Jooste) at a fee of $10,000 +GST.

“It took something special to wake us from our sleep and get us back into the stallion game. Delago Deluxe is a magnificent individual who sold for $550,000 as a yearling. He was a super fast sprinter who was unbeaten at two and resumed at three to win a Gr 1 against older horses.

He is by Champion sire Encosta de Lago and from an impeccable Australian pedigree, joining an elite class of stallions like Danehill and Northern Taste who have a close up double of a great broodmare. Fast, good-looking, Gr 1 winning colts is the recipe that works in Australia, both on the track and in the sales ring – this is also what has worked for Newhaven Park in the past with Champion stallions like Marauding and Zedative.

Delago Deluxe (AUS) was a special horse from day one. He had the looks of a Stallion and tons of ability to back it up – he showed blistering speed and terrific acceleration. As soon as he won his first Gr1 at two years we knew his name would one day be nailed to a stallion barn door. After his second Gr1 win at three, we realized he was too valuable for the South African market and immediately made plans to acquire him from his connections for a stud career in Australia. Once finalized he left South Africa and arrived back home in Australia a few weeks ago. We are delighted to announce that he will be standing at the illustrious Newhaven Park Stud. The Kelly family has a no nonsense, honest reputation and are great horseman to boot. We look forward to a successful and enjoyable partnership with John and his family!
