Qld racing stars to help drought relief

Sunday 12 August 2018, 1:09pm

Some of Queensland's biggest racing names have volunteered to become slaves for a day in an effort to raise money for drought relief.

Many in the state's racing industry have been hit by the drought which also has a spin-off to the city.

Organisers hope to raise thousands of dollars at a function at Gallopers Sports Club, next to Eagle Farm racetrack, on August 26.

The function will feature an auction of some racing stars to be "slaves for two hours" for the highest bidder.

Tony Gollan, Bernadette Cooper, Bart Sinclair, Tegan Harrison, Matt Rudolph and Shane Scriven are among those to be auctioned.

There will also be a trivia competition, raffles and door prizes.

"The country people are doing it really tough and anything we can do to help will be much appreciated," co-organiser trainer Desleigh Forster said.

"This is a chance for the whole Brisbane industry to do something positive."
