Shopping centre to open at Eagle Farm

Sunday 29 July 2018, 5:37pm

One of Queensland's most famous owners Evelyn Stanley will cut the ribbon to officially open the state of the art retail complex at Eagle Farm racecourse.

She is the widow of Bill Stanley, a former Queensland Turf Club committeeman and businessman, and she is still a regular racegoer.

The Stanleys owned many top gallopers including Rajah Sahib, Cyron, Bunkers, Mr Cromwell, and Lire News.

Stanley recently donated the family's race trophies to the Brisbane Race Club which features them in its museum.

The shopping complex to be opened on Tuesday is part of a multi-million dollar development plan for Eagle Farm and Doomben racing precincts.

The two storey complex contains a Woolworths store, doctor's surgery, and a dozen speciality shops.

BRC chairman Neville Bell said the complex was a wonderful asset for the club's members and would provide a strong income stream.

"Mrs Stanley was the perfect person to open the centre on behalf of the members as she has been an icon of the sport here for more than 50 years," he said.

The BRC is still hopeful racing can return to Eagle Farm in December.
