Miss Leonidas scores big win at the Valley

Trainer Shaun Dwyer has lofty plans in mind for Miss Leonidas after her explosive win at Moonee Valley.

The three-year-old was sent off a $3 favourite in Saturday's Embassy Print Solutions Sprint on Saturday, racing away to a six-length win.

Dwyer plans to spell Miss Leonidas before a spring campaign but in the longer term he is considering the Group One Lightning Stakes at Flemington in the autumn, a race he won in 2004 with Regimental Gal.

"Regi won it and I don't think she's too far off her," Dwyer said of Miss Leonidas.

"She's been difficult to handle but she can be as mad as she wants to be for the next six weeks as she goes for a spell.

"We'll try and get a bit of black type in the spring and then aim at the Lightning."

Dwyer said he held Golden Slipper hopes for the filly as a two-year-old but those plans were shelved following a gallop at Randwick.

He said Miss Leonidas had the habit of hanging out when working left-handed but would hang in when working clockwise.

"We found she was lame in the off hind, which became a consistent problem," Dwyer said.

"Whether as a baby she slipped and hurt a ligament we don't know but with the ligament and the scarring, the further you get into a preparation, the more it physios itself so when we trot her up now she's perfect.

"To find a horse like her is special.

"It's exciting times ahead."
