Sedanzer reigns supreme in Brisbane Cup

Saturday 9 June 2018, 2:10pm

Classy mare Sedanzer has dispelled any doubts about her wet-track ability by scoring a dominant win in the Group Two Brisbane Cup at Doomben.

Tim Clark continued his bumper winter carnival campaign for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott when he rode Sedanzer, the $2.80 favourite, to a 2-1/4 length win in front of Anton En Avant ($20), with Kiwia ($5) a similar margin away in third.

Co-trainer Adrian Bott admitted he had reservations about Sedanzer's ability to cope with the heavy track during Saturday's 2200m race.

"We didn't have too much (wet) form to go on previously with her but we thought her class would take her a long way," Bott said.

Bott will discuss with Waterhouse whether to extend Sedanzer's winter carnival campaign to target the mare at races such as the Caloundra and Grafton Cups.

Another option is for Sedanzer to spell and be aimed at the spring carnival, in races such as the Myer Classic and Matriarch Stakes.

"We'll have to look at what's up here for her now and where she's best suited," Bott said.

Clark had Sedanzer cruising in third place before moving up strongly to challenge on the home turn and sprinting clear at the 250m mark.

"From the 700m when I gave her a bit more rein she towed me into it," Clark said.

"I was supremely confident coming to the turn. She's got a great turn of foot and she dashed away and won well."

Clark said Sedanzer deserved to win the Cup after an unlucky third in the Premier's Cup at Doomben at her lead-up start.

Clark won the Doomben 10,000 aboard English for Waterhouse and Bott earlier in the winter carnival.
