Vets pass Stradbroke Handicap pair

Friday 8 June 2018, 4:46pm

Racing Queensland vets have given the green light for two Stradbroke Handicap runners to start after race eve inspections.

All runners in the three Group One races were inspected on Thursday and early on Friday.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said RQ vets had wanted a second look at the Chris Waller-trained Endless Drama and the Mark Newnham-trained Burning Passion who are both in Saturday's Stradbroke (1350m).

"They inspected both horses on Friday afternoon and reported they were OK to run," Reardon said.

He said Burning Passion would race in a three-quarter plate on his near fore leg as would Captivator in the Queensland Derby.

The clearance of the pair leaves the Darren Weir-trained Danon Liberty still outside the Stradbroke field as first emergency.

Weir's travelling foreman Jarrod McLean said it had been deflating to learn the horse was an emergency after the team expected he would get a run.

Weir will have Voodoo Lad in the Stradbroke and he will be ridden by former West Australian jockey Chris Parnham who has relocated to Victoria.

"There will be worse $26 chances running around on Saturday," Weir's foreman Jarrod McLean said.

"He isn't a Group One winner yet but he's probably been unlucky in some."
