Machinegun Jubs needs jockey

Friday 8 June 2018, 4:24pm

Trainer Angela Davies hopes a jockey will materialise for Machinegun Jubs on race day at Randwick, after her search drew a blank.

The mare is in the field for the Listed June Stakes (1100m) but Gosford-based Davies has been unable to source a rider.

"I'm having a little starvation at the moment just trying to get to 53 (kg) because there isn't anyone else to ride," Davies said.

"We won't know until scratching time, then we'll see what happens."

Davies had hoped to book Jason Collett to ride the five-year-old for the first time since January last year but he was committed to the Kim Waugh-trained His Majesty.

Apprentice Jean Van Overmeire was slated to ride Machinegun Jubs but has the mount on Oriental Runner who was upgraded from an emergency when Gibraltar Girl was scratched.

Machinegun Jubs, who is second-up after a seventh in the Listed Ortensia Stakes at Scone last month, is also in the field for the Australian Turf Club Sprint (1200m) in which she has 58.5kg.

Davies also needs a jockey if she opts for that assignment but the black-type race takes precedence.

"The mare's all good on her behalf. We just have to find a rider for her," she said.

Davies also hopes the track will improve from the heavy range to soft because Machinegun Jubs boasts three wins from five starts on that surface.

Machinegun Jubs was a $31 chance for the June Stakes with the TAB on Friday, and rated a $26 hope for the Australian Turf Club Sprint.
