Siren's Fury would relish Stradbroke role

Tuesday 5 June 2018, 5:14pm

The Dane Ripper Stakes has always been the mission for Siren's Fury, but trainer Jason Coyle will happily test the consistent mare in the Stradbroke Handicap if the opportunity arises.

Coyle admits the four-year-old is unlikely to make the field for the $1.5 million feature over 1350m at Doomben on Saturday, and if not a Group Two assignment over the same trip is enticing.

Siren's Fury has won three of her past four starts, including the Group Three Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone last month.

"If we happened to get into the Stradbroke field, with her weight (51kg) I wouldn't say it's too far out of her depth," Coyle said.

Siren's Fury was 28th in the order of entry ahead of a maximum field of 16 being confirmed on Wednesday.

"At that far down it's very doubtful and plan A was always to go for the Dane Ripper. If you're still racing well there then you bounce into the Tatt's Tiara," Coyle said.

Siren's Fury had a freshen-up after the Scone carnival and wasn't asked to do too much in a barrier trial at Warwick Farm on Monday.

"She's come back in good nick. It was an easy trial after a month between runs," Coyle said.

Siren's Fury will seek to extend her unbeaten sequence to three this preparation, a campaign Coyle considers her best ever.

"She's probably gone well every prep, but she's taken it to a new level," he said.

Queensland jockey Tegan Harrison rode Siren's Fury for the first time in the Dark Jewel and is expected to continue their association on Saturday.

Coyle will also have a clearer idea where three-year-old Destiny's Hero runs on Saturday when the fields for Doomben and Randwick are finalised.

Destiny's Hero has been nominated for the Group One Queensland Derby (2200m) and Queensland Guineas (1600m) plus a Benchmark 72 Handicap (2000m) in Sydney.
