Grey beard gets the job done at the Valley

Saturday 2 June 2018, 3:47pm

The oldest horse in training at Lindsay Park has given his younger rivals a galloping lesson with an impressive victory at Moonee Valley.

Jacquinot Bay turns 11 years old on August 1 and recorded his 15th career win when taking out the Kate O'Sullivan Mile on Saturday.

Ridden close to the speed by apprentice Fred Kersley, Jacquinot Bay ($8.50) scored by 1-1/2 lengths from Rib Eye ($9.50), with Akavoroun ($9) a nose away third.

Jacquinot Bay has been with Lindsay Park since mid-2014 after beginning his career with Guy Walter.

Lindsay Park co-trainer Ben Hayes said Jacquinot Bay was a marvel.

"We love him at home and he's been in work for 500 days," Hayes said.

"We have the facilities at home to freshen him up.

"He loves being in work and we love seeing him running so well at his age.

"We have a rule that when he runs two bad races in a row he'll be retired but he hasn't heard that and I hope he hasn't heard me today."

While the career for Jacquinot Bay continues to shine, stablemate He Or She, a 10-time winner, is likely to be retired after finishing last of the 10 runners.

"He looks to have lost the will for racing and we've tried every trick in the book with him," Hayes said.
