In Her Time primed for Stradbroke

Sunday 27 May 2018, 6:05pm

Trainer Ben Smith has no reason to doubt In Her Time can bounce back from her unplaced Doomben 10,000 run to be a force in the Stradbroke Handicap.

The mare had an interrupted passage in the 10,000 on May 12 and came out of the race slightly sore and with an elevated heart rate after her ninth behind English.

Smith took her home to Newcastle and said she had recovered well and he had no concerns heading to the Stradbroke (1350m) on June 9.

"She's fine. There are no problems with her," Smith said.

"We brought her home and there's no reason to think she won't be a force in the Stradbroke."

In Her Time fulfilled her Group One destiny in the Galaxy on March 24 and two weeks later Smith welcomed a second elite winner when El Dorado Dreaming won the ATC Sires' Produce Stakes.

The filly was at $81 that day but showed it was no fluke with her third in the Champagne Stakes (1600m).

"She is back in the stable this week to start pre-training," Smith said.

"We are going to aim her at the VRC Oaks. She looks like a stayer and I'm sure she'll have no problems with the 2500 metres.

"We'll get her going and see how far she goes but the Oaks is the goal."

In Her Time has eased to $11 for the Stradbroke with Impending assuming $5 favouritism with his win in Saturday's Kingsford Smith Cup.

The Godolphin colt will head to stud in the upcoming breeding season and a final decision whether he defends the Stradbroke has yet to be made.

His stablemate Osborne Bulls, an $8 Stradbroke chance, is listed to run in a barrier trial over 1050m at Randwick on Monday, his first public appearance since his win in the Listed Luskin Star (1300m) at Scone on May 12.
