Prince Of Caviar set to line-up at Sandown

Wednesday 23 May 2018, 3:24pm

The association between jockey Luke Nolen and the connections of Black Caviar is set to continue as Prince Of Caviar has accepted to make his debut at Sandown.

Nolen has been engaged to ride the colt, the second foal of the unbeaten mare, in Saturday's Ladbrokes Back Yourself Handicap.

Black Caviar and Nolen were an inseparable force combining in 22 of her 25 wins.

Nolen also rode Black Caviar's first foal, the recently retired Oscietra, in three of her five starts, including a victory at Ballarat.

He said Prince Of Caviar has more scope than the older half-sister and expects the colt to be a better three-year-old.

The colt is one of four first starters in Saturday's 1200m race and has drawn barrier five in the 13-horse field.

"Most horses don't compare to mum but he's done everything right and that's why he's going to the races on Saturday," Nolen said.

"He seems to have some sort of ability but whatever he does I think he'll make a nice three-year-old.

"He's had a really well-rounded education and he's been versed in all things. He's led, he's come from behind, he's settled box-seat.

"However the circumstances play out on Saturday, he's been in them before.

"More importantly, he's progressing nicely."

The Sandown track is rated in the early stages of the soft range, however fine weather is predicted on Friday and Saturday which could see the track improve into the good range.

Black Caviar raced on a good track 24 times and a firm track once in her 25 starts.

Hawkes Racing has also entered Prince Of Caviar for an 800m jump-out at Flemington on Friday.
