Eawase defies pattern for stakes success

Saturday 19 May 2018, 1:27pm

Well-bred Sydney filly Eawase defied the racing pattern of the day and earned valuable black type with her win in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes t Doomben.

Eawase ($5.50) came from well back in the field to beat Granny Red Shoes ($9) by 1-1/2 lengths with a long head to Sizzling Belle ($3.70) in third place.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden said he had always had a nice opinion of Eawase and it was good to get black type with her early in her career.

The filly is owned by the China Horse Club who paid $500,000 for her as she is by top sire Sebring out of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen.

"Eawase has always shown she would appreciate running on from a fast early pace. She is different from her mum who was a real flyer," Snowden said.

"She won her last start before coming here and beat a horse I have a bit of time for."

Snowden said Eawase would continue to race into the winter with the Group One JJ Atkins a possibility.

"We will just have to see how she pulls up. There are a couple of other options," Snowden said.

Winning jcokey Mark Zahara said it had been a strong effort and Eawase was a filly of the future.
