Brad Widdup has moved Dissolution back into his comfort zone after he faltered when stepping up in distance for the Group Three Frank Packer Plate.

The Hawkesbury trainer conceded he had erred in pushing the three-year-old gelding out to 2000m last month at Randwick where he over-raced before finishing six lengths from the winner Higher Ground.

Dissolution had seemed to handle the distance when sixth in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes, his last start for Hawkes Racing, but with blinkers on in the Frank Packer, he raced too keenly.

"Sometimes you try things you're not sure of and if I had my time over again I'd take the blinkers off," Widdup said.

"He overdid it and didn't get a chance to relax or settle so I think it's a forgive run."

Dissolution has an opportunity to bounce back in Saturday's $400,000 Inglis 3YO Guineas (1400m), in which he is seeking his third win from five starts this preparation.

"He was in good form before the Frank Packer Plate and he came through the run excellent," Widdup said

He was a $5 chance with the TAB on Thursday behind the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Moss Trip ($2.80) and Villermont ($3.50) from Ciaron Maher's stable.

Widdup says the blinkers will stay on and if Dissolution proves his last run was an aberration he heads to Brisbane for the Group Three Fred Best Classic (1300m) at Doomben on May 26 and ideally the Group Two Queensland Guineas (1600m) a fortnight later.

Widdup also welcomes two-year-old filly Witherspoon back for her first race since being buffeted in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast in January.

Witherspoon resumes in the Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) where she has a fifth crack at breaking her maiden.

"It's a two-year-old fillies race and she's around that sort of level," Widdup said.

"I'm desperate to win a race with her and if she doesn't win on Saturday there's a maiden coming up at Canterbury in a couple of weeks time."
