Redzel secures his Everest slot

Tuesday 8 May 2018, 7:53am

Defending titleholder Redzel has secured his slot in The Everest and will run for Yulong Investments in the $13 million race.

Yulong has reached an agreement with the five-year-old's owners, Triple Crown Syndications, to race in their colours on October 13.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Redzel is the third horse to secure a berth with In Her Time to race for Tabcorp and Trapeze Artist to represent Aquis Farm.

Yulong Investments, headed by Yuesheng Zheng, bought into the concept last year when they were represented by She Will Reign.

"We are delighted to secure Redzel to represent Yulong Investments in the 2018 Everest," Sam Fairgray, chief operating officer of Yulong, said.

"He is the reigning Everest Champion and is one of Australia's elite sprinters. His racing style and ability to handle all surfaces was a major factor in Mr Zhang selecting Redzel.

"The Snowdens already train a number of Yulong's large racing team and are outstanding at getting horses to peak in their grand final.

"We look forward to teaming up with Triple Crown and their syndicate members in this year's renewal of the Everest."

Redzel, winner of the 2017 Doomben 10,000, is the favourite to defend the Group One sprint in Brisbane on Saturday with In Her Time the second-elect.

"It was an incredible day for all involved last year when Redzel won The Everest and we are very much delighted to be returning with our fantastic team of owners to the race this year with the aim of defending his title," Triple Crown's Chris Ward said.

"Mr Zhang has been a prominent supporter of the racing industry in Australia and we are thrilled to be partnering with his Yulong Investments group and teaming up with someone possessing such passion and ambition for the sport.

"Peter and Paul Snowden are the ultimate grand final trainers, as they proved in this race last year, and alongside Yulong Investments we have a strong team to retain The Everest in 2018."
