Sedanzer set to rebound at Scone

Sunday 6 May 2018, 3:50pm

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have excused Sedanzer for her unplaced first-up run at Hawkesbury and expect a sharper effort at the Scone carnival.

The mare jumped as the equal favourite for the Group Three Godolphin Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury on April 28 but finished ninth, 3-1/4 lengths from the winner Pecans.

Co-trainer Bott said the quality of her opposition at Hawkesbury was strong.

"We'll be forgiving of her first-up. She won first-up last campaign but she wasn't quite in a field with the depth we saw in Hawkesbury," Bott said.

"She was a little bit plain unfortunately, but I think she can improve off it."

Bott cited a five-race campaign that culminated in a step up to 2200m for the Magic Millions Trophy at the Gold Coast in January as a mitigating factor.

"She had a long campaign last time and we stretched her right out in trip so whether she might have still been feeling the effects of that," he said.

Sedanzer, who has black-type through a second to Pecans in the Group Three Belle Of The Turf (1600m) at Gosford in December, will try to boost her broodmare potential in the Group Three Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) at Scone on Saturday.

"She'll go there as planned and all going well, if she shows promise, we'll head up to Queensland," Bott said.

"If she doesn't go ahead like we hope we'll back off and look towards the spring."

Sedanzer has a flawless second-up record with three wins from three attempts.
