Houtzen flies in Gold Coast track gallop

Saturday 5 May 2018, 12:58pm

Doomben 10,000 contender Houtzen has signalled she will be a force in the Group One sprint with a brilliant track gallop between races at the Gold Coast.

Houtzen worked over 800m with stablemate Te Amo on Saturday and got home the last 600m in a sizzling 31.65 seconds.

The filly was able to fully stretch out in the straight and went to the line clocking an exceptional 10.26 seconds for the final 200m.

Trainer Toby Edmonds was happy with the effort saying it was the best Houzten has ever worked.

"That was exactly what we wanted. She should be spot-on for next Saturday," Edmonds said.

"She has really pleased us since she came back from Sydney and she is such a good traveller and feeder."

Houtzen won last year's Magic Millions 2YO Classic and won the Group Three P J Bell Stakes in Sydney during the autumn.

Her clash with interstate superstars including Redzel, In Her Time, English, Impending and Spieth is expected to be a highlight of the Brisbane winter carnival.
