In Her Time secures start in The Everest

Thursday 26 April 2018, 5:57pm

Group One-winning mare In Her Time has nailed a start in The Everest after narrowly missing out on the inaugural running of the world's richest race on turf at Randwick.

Tabcorp announced on Thursday the Ben Smith trained five-year-old would represent the wagering organisation which sponsored the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained English in The Everest in October.

In Her Time is the second confirmed starter for the $13 million 1200m-sprint after TJ Smith and All Aged Stakes winner Trapeze Artist secured the Aquis Farm slot earlier this week.

Newcastle-based Smith can look forward to a more significant involvement on Everest Day after watching In Her Time claim the Listed Sydney Stakes (1200m) before Redzel won the weight-for-age sprint.

In Her Time raced into contention for a late call-up for The Everest after she won the Group Two Premiere Stakes (1200m) first-up in September beating a field that included Everest runners English, Chautauqua, Fell Swoop and Clearly Innocent.

At the time, the mare was raced on lease making negotiations difficult but she is now in the sole ownership of Peter Brown.

Smith will use the Premiere Stakes as In Her Time's only lead-in race to The Everest given her second-up record features two wins and two minor placings.

Since the inaugural Everest, In Her Time has won the Group One Galaxy (1100m) and finished a luckless third behind Trapeze Artist and Redzel in the Group One TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) during the autumn carnival.

In Her Time resumes her rivalry with Redzel in the Group One Doomben 10,000 (1200m) on May 12 while Smith is also eyeing the $1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 9.

In Her Time shortened from $8 to $7 on the TAB Everest market on Thursday after she gained a start with Redzel and Trapeze Artist the joint $5 favourites.
