Local knowledge to help Supido

Thursday 26 April 2018, 2:51pm

Victorian trainer Mick Kent has been quick to harness some local knowledge for the unlucky Supido at Doomben.

Kent has booked premier Brisbane jockey Jeff Lloyd for Supido in the Group Two Victory Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.

Supido, who was bought this week by Widden Stud, earmarked himself as a future Group One winner when he won the Group Three Monash Stakes at Caulfield in July.

He trialled brilliantly before the Melbourne autumn carnival and Kent was even thinking about the Group One Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai.

But Supido had an unlucky autumn with close-up efforts in the three Group One races.

Supido was beaten 1-1/2 lengths when fourth in the Lightning Stakes won by Redkirk Warrior

He was then, a length from the same horse when fifth in the Newmarket and 2-1/2 lengths back when fourth behind Hellbent in the William Reid Stakes.

Kent decided to head to Brisbane with Supido's targets the Victory Stakes and the Group One Doomben 10,000 on May 12.

Lloyd said he had been booked to ride Supido last week and was keen to ride the horse.

"He seems to be one of those horses who is always close up in very good races and he is obviously a chance on Saturday. I think they wanted a local jockey," Lloyd said.

"Supido looks an ideal horse for the Brisbane winter."

Supido has won seven races and his thirds in the Group One Goodwood Handicap and Group Two Challenge Stakes has boosted his prize money to $563,000.
