Glyn Schofield resting back problem

Monday 23 April 2018, 5:33pm

Glyn Schofield will undergo a period of rest to treat a back problem which resulted in the jockey being briefly hospitalised.

Schofield has been taken off his rides on Wednesday and has had the dates of a careless riding suspension altered to begin on Thursday.

The problem surfaced on Friday at the Warwick Farm barrier trials and again on Saturday with Schofield taken to hospital for scans and pain relief,

Before he was stood down on Saturday, Schofield rode in the J H B Carr Stakes and was later suspended for an incident in that race.

Racing NSW stewards on Monday agreed to alter the dates of his suspension and Schofield will return on May 9.

His manager Ryan Roberts said Schofield would rest for the next two weeks and hoped to be back fit and well for the Scone carnival on May 11 and 12.

Before he was ruled out on Saturday, Schofield rode Higher Ground to a nose win over his Chris Waller-trained stablemate Tangled in the Frank Packer Plate.

Higher Ground is now likely to head to the Queensland Derby in June.
