Change of plans for Shamurt

Monday 23 April 2018, 2:34pm

Trainer Tony Gollan has had a change of heart with unbeaten filly Shamurt and will run her in the Listed Dalrello Stakes at Doomben.

Shamurt made it two wins from two starts when she beat boom filly Cuddle Me Tight in a two-year-old race at Toowoomba on April 7.

Gollan sent Shamurt for a freshen-up for a week and she has been back in his Eagle Farm stable for a fortnight.

"She was on the water walker before she came back into the stable so that has kept her up to the mark," Gollan said.

"I was going to go straight into the (Group Two) Champagne Classic on Doomben 10,000 day but I thought if I drew a bad barrier that day it would be a setback for the rest of the winter.

"I am keen to get her out to the 1200 metres and then the 1350 of the Sires'. This seems the best way to go.

"I have some nice two-year-olds for the winter and I just hope my run of recent seconds changes to winners soon."

Shamurt is one of 18 two-year-olds nominated for the race with 10 entered for the Group Two Victory Stakes (1200m) headed by last year's Stradbroke Handicap winner Impending.

Premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller has up to a dozen horses earmarked to go to his Gold Coast stable for the winter carnival.

Leading the way will be last year's Queensland Oaks winner Egg Tart, Packer Plate winner Higher Ground and the Doncaster Mile runner-up Comin' Through.

Waller's Queensland manager Paul Shailer said the stable was keen to play a major hand in the winter carnival.

"We have had some good results in Group One races this season and are keen to add to that tally," he said.
