Five jockeys involved in Hobart fall

Sunday 18 February 2018, 8:52pm

Leading Tasmanian jockey David Pires will need surgery on a fractured hip suffered in a fall at Hobart while veteran Queensland rider Gary Geran has fractured ribs and bruised lungs after a fall at Toowoomba.

Pires and four other jockeys, Shuji Amano, Georgie Catania, Bulent Muchu and Jason Maskiell, were taken to Hobart Hospital after the fall in the first race on Sunday.

Tasracing says Amano has a fractured collarbone but the other three riders have been released.

Geran came down on Saturday night and Racing Queensland said he was continuing to be treated for pain in hospital.

Tiffani Brooker was taken to hospital for scans which came back clear after a fall at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

RQ said she hoped to be released late on Sunday.
