Kilmore meeting off to the Yarra Valley

Tuesday 13 February 2018, 2:12pm

Safety concerns over a section of the Kilmore track has forced a meeting transfer.

Thursday's meeting has been switched to Yarra Valley which has resulted in distance alterations for seven of the eight races.

An inspection on Tuesday by Racing Victoria stewards found the Kilmore track was not suitable to race on because of wear and tear between the 500m and 350m mark following their last meeting on February 1.

More than 60mm of rain had fallen in the lead-up to that meeting, which in turn resulted in surface damage to the section where the rail tapered from a position of 5m out to the true position around the home turn.

Despite efforts by the club to repair the track, stewards were of the opinion it hadn't sufficiently recovered to safely conduct the meeting.

The Kilmore track is due to undergo its annual renovation on Friday which should ensure the the track is suitable to conduct its next meeting in April.
