Wednesday 7 February 2018, 8:17pm

Apprentice Stephen Brown has been taken to hospital after collapsing following a race at Sandown.

Brown finished third aboard Tradies Tea Break in the Sheen Group Handicap but collapsed and was physically ill on returning to the saddling enclosure.

Racing Victoria steward Wade Hadley said Brown was dehydrated after wasting to ride Tradies Tea Break at 58kg, taking only 2kg of his 3kg claim.

Unable to weigh-in post-race, Racing Victoria stewards ordered correct weight.

Jockey Ryan Maloney will commence a seven-meeting careless riding suspension after he rides Nature Strip in the Inglis Sprint at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Maloney was suspended for careless riding aboard Masuta in the Clanbrooke Racing Plate.

Craig Williams was also suspended for careless riding after finishing second aboard Ruchla in the same race.

Like Maloney, he was suspended for seven meetings, with stewards deeming the interference in the low range.

Williams starts his suspension after racing at Caulfield on Saturday and will be back for the Lightning Stakes meeting at Flemington on February 17.

To start his suspension on Saturday night, Williams was able to obtain a release from Pretty Punk in the Hobart Cup on Sunday.
